Upgraded to 1709, installed new RSAT and DNS tool was missing. Couldn’t uninstall RSAT.

  1. Open registry
  2. export: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fusion\PublisherPolicy\Default\v4.0_Policy.3.1.Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration__31bf3856ad364e35\1\
  3. Delete: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fusion\PublisherPolicy\Default\v4.0_Policy.3.1.Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration__31bf3856ad364e35\1\
  4. Remove RSAT using the DISM command:
    • On the computer that is running Windows 7 (or 10), open a Command PromptĀ  (or Powershell) session with elevated user rights by clicking Start, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, right-clicking Command Prompt (or Powershell), and then clicking Run as administrator.
    • Find the name of the Administration Tools package by typing the following, and then pressing Enter.

      dism /online /Get-Packages

In the command results, look for the package name that contains the text RemoteServerAdministrationTools. (mine is: Microsoft-Windows-RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Client-Package-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.14393.347)

    • Type the following, and then press Enter to remove the package from the computer, in which Name represents the entire name of the package that you obtained in step 2, including version number and architecture information.

      dism /online /Remove-Package /PackageName:<Name>

      (e.g. dism /online /Remove-Package /PackageName:Microsoft-Windows-RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Client-Package-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.14393.347)

  • Then installed the RSAT for 2016 and DNS tool will be back.
